"This book may well be Tillich's most original work. Here theology and culture really penetrate and Tillich's European background and American context really coalesce....Its publication is a theological event."--Albert C. Outler

Introductory Essays to a Major 20th Century Theologian
By Jeremy Garber
An excellent introduction to Tillich's core concepts, such as religion as ultimate concern, the notion of idolatry, his survey of existentialist philosophy, and the mediation of culture and language. Especially good intro essays are "Aspects of a Religious Analysis of Culture," "The Nature of Religious Language," and "Existential Philosophy: Its Historical Meaning." Some of the collected essays seem designed merely to flesh out the volume, while others (such as Tillich's cultural comparison essays) are outdated or embarassingly provincial. Recommended reading for college philosophy and theology texts, as well as anyone seeking to grasp why Tillich's concepts are still useful (if slightly outdated) today.

Tough, challenging, but worth the work
By Bob
My old college Latin wasn't quite up to some of the work thrust upon it in the early chapters of this book. But stay with it, the Latin disperses like an early morning fog as you get deeper into the volume. I found it very useful. Tillich is father to much of post-modern Protestant theology, it appears.... and probably uncle to a chunk of our new-age thought as well.

Iset has spent centuries with her beloved Ari. She would do anything for him under normal circumstances. The problem, however, is that things aren’t normal now. Ari has been ignoring her for far too long. She doesn’t know why he is being so distant, but she is hell bent on recapturing his affections, even if it means getting herself into a lot of trouble!

FROM EGYPT TO TEXAS
By Redrabbitt
This is a different and unique beginning to a new series that has history, mystery, suspense, sci-fi, romance, dominance, submission and immortality. From modern day Texas as a successful business CEO or as Pharaoh Ramesses II, Ari is a powerful and dominant man. He is fair, respected, and reasonable, but he expects obedience and submission. Iset has been his wife since 1270 B.C.; even as a slave she had a spunky streak to her, but she has knows her place. They have retained their youth and immortality as The Enlightened, here on earth as guardians. But what happens when Ari starts received emails that hint as to his past and present and threats are being made? Iset is jealous of his required attention to work and Ramsey International and may have put her and him in jeopardy. The plot kept me captivated, going back to 1270 BC and how they met. The dialog is entertaining and keeps the pages turning. This is the first of a series and I look forward to reading more.

Unusual And Fascinating story by Mira Brooks

This was an unusual and unique book. It had sci-fi, historical, romance, and immortality. The only complaint I had was that it ended without warning so I will be anxiously awaiting the next one. The overview coveres what it's about so I won't go into any details except to say it was a page turner and I'm looking forward to reading more

At Once Uplifting and Troubling
By Maria
As someone who has loved and studied ancient Egypt all her life, I was excited to come across this book. Even though the writing style was not exactly to my taste, and there were too many passionate repetitions of her feelings vs. other people's more limited perspectives, I kept reading because much of what the author says struck a chord inside me, and there were some fascinating stories involving people she met and what they told her (concerning Ayurvedic medicine, for example.) There's no doubt the author was an intelligent, sensitive, creative and all-around wonderful human being. And yet... something didn't feel quite right; I was finding it increasingly difficult to suspend my disbelief when I got to the part where she supposedly remembers a past life in ancient Egypt in at once astonishing, and vague, detail. Then certain passages really began to bother me: "...And so it has come about that this animal-like material race of cave men is experimenting with divine laws, growing mightier and more powerful until the time comes for it to begin ruling the earth. Before leaving the earth, however, the higher race had to implant its special powers in the lower race. Through the operation of the laws of heredity, this will enable the lower race...to rise out of matter again..." Apparently, the Sons of God, those who were left after what sounds like the destruction of Atlantis, interbred with a lesser breed of human being, the so-called cave men, and created the ancient Egyptian race that built the pyramids. "'Father,' I ask... 'Didn't the daughters of the Sons of God also take husbands from among the sons of men? Why have only the Sons of God begotten children with the daughters of men?' '(Because...)God still remains pure if he begets children with a daughter of the sons of men. But the blood of a pure bred daughter of God would become mixed blood if she were to marry one of the sons of men. From then on she would be mixed and so would her children.'" I won't even go there!

Suddenly, I simply could not suspend my disbelief any longer. I didn't feel I was truly in ancient Egypt listening to ancient Egyptians speak. I'm the first person to believe the ancient Egyptians were, in the very Old Kingdom, privy to spiritual knowledge and powers that petered out in the later dynasties, but this wisdom of theirs was both spiritual and sensual, and the author makes her views on sexuality painfully clear--the only reason for sex is to breed the next generation because one must renounce sex in order to channel its energy into spiritual organs, so to speak, which otherwise cannot develop to their fullest. No ancient Egyptian would have split sexuality and spirituality in such a fashion. Suddenly, I was reading a book written by a 20th century European imagining a life in ancient Egypt. Then I read this highly disturbing paragraph: "When absolutely constant and completely impartial love radiates from you to all creatures, your love will never again be mixed with personal inclinations or antipathies. You will consider everything from the standpoint of the whole, and when the interests of the whole community are at variance with those of individual persons, you will unhesitatingly defend the cause of the group with ruthless disregard for the interests of individuals..." What?! Did Elisabeth Haich and Ayn Rand have tea one day? The quest for "pure" spirituality, the need to rise above material desires, to transcend emotions and passions, is NOT ancient Egyptian or, in my passionate opinion, healthy. God took flesh for a reason, dare I believe to enjoy Itself? Really iffy theories of a superior race breeding with cave men (cosmic eugenics) chauvinist biology and almost fascist, definitely cold-blooded attitudes to "mere" individuals... none of these things belong in a book about spiritual initiation. A book like this is at once fascinating and dangerous because too many ethnocentric perspectives are confusingly mixed in with spiritual truths. Please, read with a grain of salt.

Explains every question about god, spirit, life and death.
By saharrington@juno.com - Shelly Harrington
I just happened to go to a psychic and she told me that my spirit guides told me I should read this book. My spirit guide said that it would explain all the questions I have ever had about god, where I came from, and my past lives. And boy did it ever. The book goes in to great detail about birth, life, death, reincarnation, zodiacs, and so much more. I recommend it to anyone who is confused about god, religion or their spiritual well being. The content of this book will explain everything. I read every word in two days and accepted it as truth, not fiction.

Enlightening Must-Read
By pkj@webtv.net
I, like many others, was told I had to read this book. I purchased it within days and literally inhaled the wisdom and truth that unfolded from its pages. I have just begun my spiritual journey in earnest and this book has pushed me further than any other reading has thus far. I felt I had lived it. as often I knew what the author would say before reading the printed words. I have since recommended it to others and found out it is no longer in print...as it turns out I picked up the last copy in a Tri-city area. I knew then I was chosen to receive this knowledge and I know I will refer to its guidance for my lifetime and plan to share it with as many as I can so we can all be a part of healing our souls and bring our lives closer to our creator...This novel has influenced me in a positively spiritual way.

Thermodynamics, by William Z. Black, James G. Hartley

The third edition of "Thermodynamics "provides an easily understandable presentation of classical thermodynamics that builds on the student's background of energy concepts first learned in physics and chemistry. The material is organized in a logical progression from the conservation of mass, the conservation of energy, and the second law. The engineering perspective is retained and a variety of familiar examples are used so that the student can appreciate how thermodynamics affects a broad range of subjects. The authors continue to emphasize a systematic approach to problem solving and that approach is used in all example problems in the text. This problem solving method provides not only a reasonable way to approach the task of solving thermodynamics problems, but it also will serve the student in other engineering and science disciplines. Each example is worked in detail, and particular attention has been given to the proper use of units and unit conversions in the solutions.Detailed explanations accompany the simplifications when the general equations are reduced to the forms that apply to special cases so that the student will gain a better understanding of the conservation principles as well as greater awareness of these powerful analytical tools. Examples address the questions of which form of the conservation laws should be used and why certain assumptions can be applied to simplify the solutions.Believing that second-law analysis should play a major role in the analysis of engineering problems, the authors provide extensive coverage of the second law of thermodynamics. The development of the second law is similar to that used for the introduction of the conservation of mass and energy. The results of the second law are carried over into subsequent chapters where they are applied to thermodynamic systems such as power and refrigeration cycles as well as air-conditioning processes.

I actually was a student of one of the authors (Dr. Hartley) at Georgia Tech about five years ago. He was one of the most interesting and informative professors I had at Tech. His skill in teaching shows in the layout and content of this book. I keep this book at work as a refresher and reference. The software included with the book is also very useful. I recommend this book for any thermo class

One of the better mechanical engineering course textbooks
By IP Litigator
I thought this was one of the better written textbooks from my years at Georgia Tech in the mid 1990s. Very user friendly with good examples that were clear and easy to understand. Complete opposite of Incropera-DeWitt, 3rd edition, which I thought was the worst textbook.

Clearing the Path, by Nanavira Thera

Clearing the Path is the first volume of the collected writings of Ñanavira Thera. It contains his most important writings: those that originated after he attained sotapatti (Stream-entry) on 27.06.1959. Clearing the Path is supplemented by Seeking the Path, a second volume consisting of his early writings (1954-1960) and marginalia. In March 1963 Ñanavira Thera wrote to one of his correspondents: 'With regard to any of my past writings that you may come across [...] I would ask you to treat with great reserve anything dated before 1960, about which time certain of my views underwent a modification. If this is forgotten you may be puzzled by inconsistencies between earlier and later writings'. (L. 49) Clearing the Path consists of the final version of the author's principal work, Notes on Dhamma (1960-1965), faithfully restored from the original manuscript, followed by the letters he exchanged with several interested individuals during the last five years of his life. Part of the correspondence started after Notes on Dhamma was first published and carefully distributed as a private edition of 250 cyclostyled copies, and can be regarded as something of a commentary on the Notes . Notes on Dhamma has been variously described as 'arrogant, scathing, and condescending', as 'a fantastic system', and as 'the best and most important book on Buddhism ever written by a Westerner'. Ñanavira Thera himself remarked of the book that 'it is vain to hope that it is going to win general approval [...] but I do allow myself to hope that a few individuals [...] will have private transformations of their way of thinking as a result of reading [the Notes]'.

About the Author
Ven. Ñanavira Thera, formerly Harold Musson, was born in 1920 into a British military family, and attained the rank of Captain during World War II. After the war he graduated with First Class Honours in Modern Languages from Cambridge University, but dissatisfied with his mundane life, he left England for Sri Lanka in 1948 and became a samanera the following year. He ordained as a bhikkhu, taking the name of Ñanavira, at Vajirarama monastery (Colombo) in 1950, and spent his early years at the Island Hermitage. He later moved to a solitary kuti near Bundala, where he spent most of his ordained life until his death in 1965.

The best discussion of the Buddha's teaching by a Westerner...
By Craig Shoemake
How does one review a book that, arguably, is the most influential book in your life?

I don't actually recall how/when I first encountered Ñāṇavīra's writings. So, I can't say how they struck me at the time. But I can say that for a while-a good many years, in fact-they basically defined the Buddha's teaching for me. What purpose, exactly, did these amazing and unique documents fulfill in my thinking?

First, they directed me to the suttas and away from that which would interpret them for me (think the Commentaries) or pretend to supersede them (the later schools, Mahayana, etc). And while my range in Buddhism has broadened considerably since then, I still think that if your interest is to know what the historical Buddha said this is a healthy attitude to have. If it's just any kind of spiritual thought or practice you're after, there are a great many out there to satisfy you, but if your intention is to get to know Shakyamuni Buddha, the Pali canon (but not all of it!) is where you've got to go. All others are pretenders and wannabes.

So Ñāṇavīra pointed me to the original texts. But he also, to my mind, illuminated them like nobody else ever has. In his writings there is a combination of integrity, clarity, rigor and exactness that is rarely found in spiritual writing, even the best. The man had a first rate head on his shoulders, a wry wit, and the writerly chops to get it all across in the best style possible. Not to mention the fact that he wrote from actual meditative attainment (i.e. sotapatti, meaning stream entry) and so knew first hand something of the Buddha's teaching and how the texts related to that attainment.

Another notable aspect of Ñāṇavīra's writings is his relating of the Buddhist suttas to twentieth century European philosophy--specifically existentialism and phenomenology. This is not to say he thought Sartre & Co had somehow discovered the Dhamma on their own, but rather he noted that their perspective on the human situation mirrored the Buddha's own position to an uncanny degree and so, for many Westerners at least, might offer a door in to the Stream. I think there is little to argue about in this regard--that is, the case, I'd say, is pretty well proven. So those who come to the Buddha's teaching from an existentialist or phenomenological position might find more that is familiar than they would expect. Ñāṇavīra pointed this out to me, and through this understanding I found myself adopting a different attitude with a consequently greater appreciation for the existentialists.

Beyond mere intellectual illumination though there is also Ñāṇavīra's wrestling with questions of life and death, specifically his own. He lived, for the better part of a decade, with ill health, chronic discomfort, and the prospect that his solitary enterprise as a Buddhist monk might be go down to defeat on account of intestinal parasites. As a result, his writings discuss with startling matter-of-factness the possibility of his death by suicide on this account, and what such a death might mean within the context of Buddhadhamma. As one reads, the omnipresent possibility--indeed, inevitability--of his end weighs in the background, lending a degree of drama.

But what about the contents? What comprises this unique text? CLEARING THE PATH has been described as a "workbook," and it certainly is that. You should know though that it is not a single piece, but consists of one major original work--NOTES ON DHAMMA, written to illuminate certain critical terms in the suttas--and a slew of letters to correspondents who came to Ñāṇavīra with questions about life, the Dhamma, and the meaning of it all. One piece, entitled FUNDAMENTAL STRUCTURE, is rather forbidding and opaque--something like a mathematical proof. Readers are advised to leave it for last and not to get their hopes up too high as for understanding it; I confess I grasped portions, but large swathes escaped me.

Which leads me to my one cautionary note: this book is for advanced Dhamma students only. People unfamiliar with basic Pali terminology and/or Buddhist thought will be hopelessly lost. I should also add it is not, primarily, a meditation manual; its principle thrust is the philosophical under girdings of the the historical Buddha's thought as it is found in the Pali Canon of the Theravada school. If you're looking for some other Buddhist school, this will not be your cup of tea.

I leave you with a few snippets--mere appetizers--of writing from the sage of Bundala:

(1)
Existential philosophies, then, insist upon asking questions about self and the world, taking care at the same time to insist that they are unanswerable. Beyond this point of frustration these philosophies cannot go. The Buddha, too, insists that questions about self and the world are unanswerable, either by refusing to answer them or by indicating that no statement about self and the world can be justified. But--and here is the vital difference--the Buddha can and does go beyond this point: not, to be sure, by answering the unanswerable, but by showing the way leading to the final cessation of all questions about self and the world. Let there be no mistake in the matter: the existential philosophies are not a substitute for the Buddha's Teaching--for which, indeed, there can be no substitute. The questions that they persist in asking are the questions of a puthujjana, of a "commoner," and though they see that they are unanswerable they have no alternative but to go on asking them; for the tacit assumption upon which all these philosophies rest is that the questions are valid. They are faced with an ambiguity that they cannot resolve. The Buddha, on the other hand, sees that the questions are not valid and that to ask them is to make the mistake of assuming that they are. One who has understood the Buddha's Teaching no longer asks these questions; he is ariya, "noble," and no more a puthujjana, and he is beyond the range of the existential philosophies; but he would never have reached the point of listening to the Buddha's Teaching had he not first been disquieted by existential questions about himself and the world (from the Preface).

(2)
At the time I read [Joyce's Ulysses]--when I was about twenty--I had already suspected (from my reading of Huxley and others) that there is no point in life, but this was still all rather abstract and theoretical. But Ulysses gets down to details, and I found I recognized myself, mutatis mutandis, in the futile occupations that fill the days of Joyce's characters. And so I came to understand that all our actions, from the most deliberate to the most thoughtless, and without exception, are determined by present pleasure and present pain. Even what we pompously call our "duty" is included in this law--if we do our duty, that is only because we should feel uncomfortable if we neglected it, and we seek to avoid discomfort. Even the wise man, who renounces a present pleasure for the sake of a greater pleasure in the future, obeys this law--he enjoys the present pleasure of knowing (or believing) that he is providing for his future pleasure, whereas the foolish man, preferring the present pleasure to his future pleasure, is perpetually gnawed with apprehension about his future. And when I had understood this, the Buddha's statement, "Both now and formerly, monks, it is just suffering that I make known and the ceasing of suffering" (M.22:38), came to seem (when eventually I heard it) the most obvious thing in the world--"What else," I exclaimed, "could the Buddha possibly teach?" (pp. 404-5).

(3)
Suffering (dukkha) is the key to the whole of the Buddha's Teaching, and any interpretation that leaves suffering out of account (or adds it, perhaps, only as an afterthought) is at once suspect. The point is, that suffering has nothing to do with a tree's self-identity (or supposed lack of self-identity): what it does have to do with is my "self" as subject (I, ego), which is quite another matter... As I point out..., "With the question of a thing's self-identity (which presents no difficulty) the Buddha's Teaching of anatta has nothing whatsoever to do: anatta is purely concerned with `self' as subject." But this is very much more difficult to grasp than the misinterpretation based on the notion of flux, so flux inevitably gets the popular vote (like the doctrine of paramattha sacca, of which it is really a part). The misinterpretation is actually of Mahayanist origin; and in one of their texts (Prajñaparamita) it is specifically stated that it is only on account of avijja that things appear to exist, whereas in reality nothing exists. But the fact is that, even when one becomes arahat, a tree continues to have a self-identity; that is to say, it continues to exist as the same tree (though undergoing subordinate changes on more particular levels--falling of leaves, growth of flowers and fruit, etc.) until it dies or is cut down. But for the arahat the tree is no longer "my tree" since all notions of "I" and "mine" have ceased (p. 175).

Nanavira's letters more illuminating than his abstract essays
By Amazon Customer
Nanavira Thera's aristocratic English background and his later study of books, when he could obtain them as donated by a few supporters in his remote jungle retreat, was heavily influenced by European existentialism, therefore understanding his dry and abstract analysis of the essence of the early canonical Buddhist teachings (Notes on Dhamma) requires understanding something of existentialist philosophy. He also presumed that his very limited reading audience would be familiar with the texts in the Pali language, although later he appended glossaries and translations. I have to admit that I do not understand most of his Notes even though I am motivated to do so. I have run into the same bewilderment when grappling with understanding existentialism. I find myself falling back on the Buddha's advice to concentrate on the fundamental problem of escaping from suffering and ignore proliferation of thoughts which do not lead to release. However, Nanavira's letters, which form the bulk of this collection of his writings, help illuminate his views. They interest me as much for revealing the kind of man he was as for his insights, difficult to share.

In particular, I have wanted to understand why he committed suicide. His act raises the question if there might have been something wrong with his understanding even if he had attained stream-entry as he claimed in a private letter made public. He suffered from a condition of satyriasis brought on by medicinal drugs prescribed to treat his chronic dysentery, which in turn prevented him from practicing meditation (samadhi). He passed the time writing and reading to distract his mental distress and physical pain when he was no longer able to sit quietly. After some years without relief he despaired of ever recovering health. He refused to consider returning to England to recover his health because of fears that he might be tempted to disrobe. Instead, he chose the "knife instead of wife" option. His very insistence on refusing to disrobe to treat his condition when this appeared to him to be the only alternative besides suicide suggests that he may have been too much attached to his identity as an iconoclastic monk. To someone who has really seen emptiness of self in all forms, the choice of living as a monk or as a layman should not make much difference, it would seem to me. Sister Vajira, for example, returned to lay life after attaining stream entry. Nanavira must have felt there was really nothing more for him to do in life. I suppose this could be a valid reason for suicide. However he may not have really understood the impermanence of everything in life, including the intractability of his medical condition. It might have been treatable after all. For example, fasting might have cured his problem. In fact, he wrote that he had considered fasting, but as a means to commit suicide, not necessarily to cure amoebiasis. Fasting is a natural remedy which may not have occurred to him or to his doctors in those days as available and effective. He dismissed it too readily, concluding that his supporters would not let him do it. It is a pity that he did not at least give it a try just as he tried out some preliminary attempts at suicide.

Unique Perspective
By Jacob Lalonde
Western thinkers in search of an intelligent, lucid account of the buddha's teaching, will not be disappointed. I haven't been able to put it down, but make sure you start with the letters, as they are a great access point to the notes.

When Tara Johanan's car goes off an icy road, she's so close to death that no one really expects her to survive. But while she's fighting for her life, she otherworldly meets Charlotte Durand, a woman who at the same moment Tara had her accident was attacked and shot in the head. Although Tara recovers in time, Charlotte remains in a coma and now Tara is driven by the memories she shares with Charlotte to find out who tried to kill Charlotte. To do that Tara meets with Charlotte's family, including her step-brother, Detective Marcus Danforth who is also searching for the person who tried to kill his sister. But passion explodes between Tara and Marcus, complicating an already twisted situation because Charlotte's assailant is now targeting Tara, and Tara also knows that once she tries to tell Marcus the truth about how she knows so much about Charlotte things will change forever between them.

The more I read By A Silken Thread the more I enjoyed it! MK Mancos does an awesome job of keeping the reader guessing as to the identity of Charlotte's attacker, all the while stoking the emotional roller coaster of emotions between Tara and Marcus. I can only hope that MK Mancos intends to write another book for some of the other characters in By A Silken Thread. Definitely a story to keep you obsessively turning the pages. By A Silken Thread has me adding MK Mancos to my list of must read authors!

It was pretty good, but some of the events causing conflict were not that interesting.

BY A SILKEN THREAD by MK Mancos.

STORY BRIEF:
On Feb 22 in New Jersey, a deer on the road causes Tara to have an accident causing her to go in and out of death. At the same time in Florida while Charlotte is driving, someone pulls up next to her and shoots her in the head. She also is near death but ends up in a coma for several months. Tara and Charlotte meet "in that other plane" while in the death state. When Tara recovers from her injuries she has a psychic connection to Charlotte and has many episodes with visions of Charlotte's memories. Tara feels compelled to go to Florida to help find the killer. While visiting Charlotte's body in the hospital, Tara meets Charlotte's half-brother Marcus, a local police detective. Marcus and Tara are attracted to each other. Tara does not tell Marcus about her visions. Instead she tells him that she and Charlotte met years ago.

Tara's personal history is that she had a few one night stands, where the men left without a word the next morning. She never had a boyfriend. She believes she is undesirable both physically and sexually. She always assumes the worst when interacting with Marcus. Tara is an artist who paints and sells her pictures.

Most of the story is Marcus investigating leads on the killer police style and Tara doing casual investigating by asking questions of people in Charlotte's life. During this time, the killer tries to harm someone else.

REVIEWER'S OPINION (WITH MINOR SPOILERS):
It was pretty good, but I had some reservations. Several events causing conflict weren't interesting for me. A good deal of conflict between Tara and Marcus was based on inaccurate assumptions about each other and Tara's poor self image. When they first met he wanted her but he believed she was not interested; but it was really her own poor self image causing her actions. She didn't tell him about the psychic connection which bothered me. I didn't see a reason for her to be so secretive. And when he discovered her journal with details of the murder, he accused her of being involved, but she didn't defend herself. Later she got a prank phone call, but wrongly assumed it was innocent. The killer's motive was weird, hard to believe, and not explained well.

I had some unanswered questions. I wanted to know why Colin did the mean thing to Tara as a teenager, and then why he sent a card to her in the hospital. Charlotte's father was exuding negativity. I wanted to know what was going on with him.

DATA:
Kindle story length: 6542. Swearing language: strong, including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 5. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 7. Setting: current day New Jersey and Florida. Copyright: 2008. Genre: paranormal romantic mystery suspense.

By Bella March
On a winter evening in New Jersey, Tara Johanan swerves her car to avoid hitting a deer and goes off the road, mangling her car and almost losing her life. In the next moment, she's looking down at her wreckage from above, certain that she's dead. Soon, she finds herself in a field and is approached by another women begging for her to find the one who shot her and left her for dead.

Surviving her near-death experience, Tara awakes in the hospital and begins her long road to recovery, but she's plagued by dizzying visions of another woman's memories and urgent pleas for help. Through research she discovers that while she was wrecking her own vehicle in New Jersey, another woman named Charlotte Durand was shot in the head while driving her car through a neighborhood in Florida and remains in a coma.

Bound and determined to help this woman find the shooter, Tara does the only thing possible: she travels to Florida in hopes that the woman will give her the clues needed to solve the mystery. What she didn't count on was falling for a man who'd send her senses reeling. Nor did she count on encountering the very danger that could send her to the brink of death. Again.

A rip-roaring, roller coaster ride of a story, By A Silken Thread starts off fast and doesn't slow down until the breath-taking, unexpected conclusion. Plot twists abound. Just when the reader thinks they've solved the mystery of the shooter's identity, they'll be proven wrong. Strong characters with a full range of emotion and depth help create a story that's fully engaging. A word of caution: do not start this novel unless you've got a few hours to burn. Once picked up and started, you won't be able to put it down. Kudos to Ms. Mancos for an fabulous read.
